Documenting Black British History
Posted On 13 July 2020
The 1st of July marked International Reggae Day, an annual global festival launched by Andrea Davis in Jamaica in 1994, celebrating the best of Jamaica’s music and creativity and its influence around the world. In recognition, we held a special No Bass Like Home webinar to celebrate Brent’s contribution to reggae and Black British music in the UK.
Joined by Mykaell Riley (Director of Black Music Research Unit at the University of Westminster) and Selina Papa (Head of Engagement at the National Heritage Lottery Fund), Brent 2020 Senior Producer, Zerritha Brown, and the panel had an informative discussion on the importance of documenting Black British cultural heritage and the approach the No Bass Like Home project has taken to build a digital reggae archive with the community.
